Choosing amino acids and probiotics

Amino acids are standard reagents, which makes them useful as controls and as defined inputs in nutrition and metabolism research. Powder is the cheapest per gram, and capsules hold a fixed amount each.

The probiotic strains are freeze-dried, no-filler powders with a stated colony count. They ship without ice but should go in the fridge when they arrive.

How we test our amino acids

Each batch is checked by LC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry), which confirms both what the compound is and how pure it is. Each product page lists the purity and the CAS number where one exists. Write the batch number from the label into your records, since small differences between batches are normal.

What you’ll find on each product page

Every product page has a short summary of what the compound is, a specifications list with the CAS number, molecular formula and weight where they exist, and a plain summary of the published research with a link to the papers on PubMed. You’ll also find the available sizes or formats, the price for each option, and storage and handling notes.

If a compound is new and hasn’t been studied much, the page says so. It’s better to know that before you plan a study around it.
