What is BAM15?

BAM15 is a mitochondrial uncoupler that moves protons across the inner membrane, raising energy use. Unlike older uncouplers, it doesn’t depolarize the plasma membrane.

It’s studied in obesity research.

What studies say about BAM15

Kenwood and colleagues described it in 2014.

Alexopoulos and colleagues reported in 2020 that it prevented weight gain in mice on a high-fat diet.

You can find the papers on PubMed. We don’t make claims beyond what that literature reports.

Working with loose BAM15 powder

Loose powder is the most flexible way to buy BAM15. You can weigh any amount you need, dissolve it in your own solvent, or fill your own capsules. It’s also the cheapest format per milligram.

For small amounts you’ll want a scale that reads to at least 0.01g, and ideally 0.001g. Our digital scale and micro scoops make it easier to get consistent measurements. Weigh onto clean weighing paper, and close the bag or jar straight after so the powder doesn’t pick up moisture.

Making a solution from BAM15 powder

To make a stock solution, decide on the final volume and concentration first. For 30mL at 10mg/mL you’d weigh 300mg of BAM15, dissolve it in about 25mL of solvent, then top up to exactly 30mL.

Check the compound’s solubility in your chosen solvent before you start, and try a small test amount first. Store the finished solution in a labelled glass bottle.

How we test BAM15

Every batch of BAM15 is checked with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) before it goes on sale. LC-MS separates a sample into its parts and identifies each one by mass, so it confirms what the compound is and how much of the sample it makes up. The current batch tested at 99% or higher.

Small differences between batches are normal, so write the batch number from the label into your records. If something looks wrong when your order arrives, like discoloured powder or a cloudy solution, set it aside and don’t use it.

Storing your BAM15

Store it frozen, at -10°C or colder. Use a clean, dry scoop each time, and reseal the container straight away. Label anything you decant with the compound, amount and date, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Common questions about the BAM15 powder

What can I dissolve BAM15 powder in?

That depends on the compound’s solubility and your protocol. Check the solubility data for your solvent first, and test a small amount before making up a full batch.

What scale do I need?

One that reads to 0.01g at minimum, and 0.001g for very small amounts. Our pocket scale reads to 0.01g.
