Description
Our K&B solution comes in a 60mL bottle for $29.99. It’s a topical vehicle made of 63% ethanol, 32% demineralised water, 2.5% Cremophor RH410 and 2.5% Luviquat FC550. It’s designed to dissolve compounds for application to skin and hair in research models.
It’s often used with topical research compounds like RU58841, which we also sell pre-dissolved. It’s part of our reconstitution and solvent range.
What is K&B solution?
K&B solution is a topical vehicle made of 63% ethanol, 32% demineralised water, 2.5% Cremophor RH410 and 2.5% Luviquat FC550. It’s designed to dissolve compounds for application to skin and hair in research models.
The ethanol does most of the dissolving, and the two BASF ingredients help the solution spread evenly and stay on the surface instead of running off.

Working with K&B solution
Measure with a glass or polypropylene pipette, not polystyrene, since some solvents soften certain plastics. Add the solvent to your weighed compound a little at a time and mix until it’s fully dissolved before topping up to the final volume.
It’s flammable because of the ethanol, so keep it away from flames and heat.
Storage and safety
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Label any solution you make with the compound, concentration, solvent and date. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Common questions about K&B solution
Is it pure?
Each batch is tested to 99% purity or higher.
What’s the best way to measure it?
Use a graduated pipette. Our 1mL and 2mL transfer pipettes are marked along the side.

We also sell PEG 400 solvent and DMSO solution, and glass bottles for storing what you make up. See all lab supplies.
Where the K&B solution fits in your workflow
Solvents like this are the starting point for making up your own research solutions from powder. You weigh the compound, add part of the solvent, mix until dissolved, then top up to the final volume in a glass bottle. Having a pure, consistent solvent means one less variable when you compare results between batches.
Tips for using the K&B solution
- Pour what you need into a separate container, and don’t pipette straight from the stock bottle.
- Keep a note of which solvent batch you used for each solution.
- Close the bottle straight away to keep out moisture and dust.
Does it go off?
Kept sealed in a cool, dark place it’s stable for a long time. Replace it if it changes color or smell.
Labelling your solutions
Once you’ve dissolved a compound in K&B, label the bottle with the compound, the concentration, the date and the batch number from the original product. A finished solution can look exactly like the plain carrier, so the label is the only reliable way to tell them apart later.
Ordering supplies with your compounds
Supplies can go in the same order as your compounds, so everything you need for a study arrives together. Add a bottle to your cart from this page, then keep browsing our lab supplies for anything else.
