Description
Our Alagebrium powder is Alagebrium supplied as loose powder. Each batch is tested by LC-MS to 99% purity or higher. It’s $69.99. It’s sold for laboratory research only.
The same compound comes in other formats too: Alagebrium liquid and Alagebrium capsules. Browse the rest of our research chemical powders for related compounds.
What is Alagebrium?
Alagebrium (ALT-711) is a thiazolium compound designed to break advanced glycation end-product (AGE) crosslinks in proteins like collagen.
It was developed by Alteon.

Research on Alagebrium
Kass and colleagues reported improved arterial compliance in older adults in 2001.
Later trials were stopped for business reasons.
AGE crosslinks build up in collagen with age and in diabetes, stiffening arteries and heart muscle, which is the process alagebrium was designed to reverse.
You can find the papers on PubMed. We don’t make claims beyond what that literature reports.
Working with loose Alagebrium powder
Loose powder is the most flexible way to buy Alagebrium. You can weigh any amount you need, dissolve it in your own solvent, or fill your own capsules. It’s also the cheapest format per milligram.
For small amounts you’ll want a scale that reads to at least 0.01g, and ideally 0.001g. Our digital scale and micro scoops make it easier to get consistent measurements. Weigh onto clean weighing paper, and close the bag or jar straight after so the powder doesn’t pick up moisture.
Making a solution from Alagebrium powder
To make a stock solution, decide on the final volume and concentration first. For 30mL at 10mg/mL you’d weigh 300mg of Alagebrium, dissolve it in about 25mL of solvent, then top up to exactly 30mL.
Check the compound’s solubility in your chosen solvent before you start, and try a small test amount first. Store the finished solution in a labelled glass bottle.
Purity testing for Alagebrium
Every batch of Alagebrium is checked with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) before it goes on sale. LC-MS separates a sample into its parts and identifies each one by mass, so it confirms what the compound is and how much of the sample it makes up. The current batch tested at 99% or higher.
Small differences between batches are normal, so write the batch number from the label into your records. If something looks wrong when your order arrives, like discoloured powder or a cloudy solution, set it aside and don’t use it.
Storage and handling
Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a clean, dry scoop each time, and reseal the container straight away. Label anything you decant with the compound, amount and date, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Common questions about the Alagebrium powder
What can I dissolve Alagebrium powder in?
That depends on the compound’s solubility and your protocol. Check the solubility data for your solvent first, and test a small amount before making up a full batch.
What scale do I need?
One that reads to 0.01g at minimum, and 0.001g for very small amounts. Our pocket scale reads to 0.01g.
